My attempt at making Pickin' Sticks with Java and GTGE. Here's the progress so far: my blog

I'm working on the zombie AI now. They will start off walking in a random direction and they will reverse their direction when they hit a wall. There's still the issue of if a zombie spawns on top of the player, then the player dies without being able to react. I'm not sure how I'm going to fix that at the moment but I'll figure something out. All the art for the game is original, though it's nothing spectacular.

You don't get respawned if you die... It's like real-life.. When you die... you die :(

Yeah... it's pretty annoying to restart the game... because it takes a pretty long time because of the fullscreen and resolution change..

I've made a big list of things to do on this game. A main menu screen, as well as a game over screen, are on the list. I'm also going to give the player a little death animation. Later on I'll at an Options screen as well, where you can change to fullscreen or windowed mode (it will be windowed by default).

EDIT: Actually, scrap that. I'm starting work now on a basic game engine that I'll be using for the next Game Compo. I'm switching over to C++ and SFML.

It's a Canada Goose, with a bad case of rabies. I'm actually not sure about switching to C++ though... I'm still on the fence. I like Java because I can make Applets and stick them in HTML. Also it's write once, run anywhere. I'll probably stick with Java because of school.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with Java unless the code speed becomes an issue. But I don't think my games will be that complex so it shouldn't be a problem.
