Even though it was probably boring to watch, the Pickin' Sticks livestream was pretty fun.

What could we do that's a bit more high-energy, that doesn't take two and a half hours that we could stream?

Group discussions on programming topics?
Group let's plays?
etc. etc.

  • Version Control - What it is, why you should use it, and svn vs. hg vs. git
  • Good programming books (could do a book club thing ;P)
  • Clean code, bad smells
  • Functional vs. OOP vs. ??? paradigms
  • Refactoring

Game Development
  • Types of Collision Detection
  • Plugging our upcoming original games

General
  • Who are your role models? (John Carmack, etc.)
  • What got you started in programming?
  • Inspirational games
  • Making money off your work

Special
  • When somebody releases a game - Launch party / playthrough / interview

This is a programming-centric community, so it seems natural that we could cover all sorts of topics about programming. My vote goes to tutorials, in-depth topics, OOP topics, how collision works, clean code vs ugly code, those sorts of things. Possibly discussion about game theory and graphics/audio. Or, we could all just get together and ramble about what we are coding for an hour. :D

I could definitely go for a programming discussion. We could set up a google docs thing or whatever, some sort of whiteboard program. Also let's plays would be fun. We could do some kind of decision heavy game. Let the hangout decide on group decisions.

It'd be cool to let's play short games by studios that aren't likely to try to shut us down. xP

The White Chamber, old shareware games (Commander Keen, Jazz Jackrabbit), etc.

I read version control as "Vermin Control". Twice.

I'm up for anything, but I'd like to weigh in on version control, patterns/paradigms and over analyzing (since I tend to fall victim to the latter two). Also a bunch of random design articles I've come up with could be expanded if your interested.
